How to create memorable content.
Your audience is exposed to an enormous amount of information every single day. Whether it’s newsletters, socials, chalkboards, blogs or posters, you need marketing content that is memorable.
Here’s five tips to help you from being forgotten:
1. Be uniquely you. Brand guidelines exist for a reason. Every colour, logo, tone, font, audio and value matters. These are all touch points to remind your consumer of who you are and they’re the elements that make you distinct. If you don’t consider your branding you run the risk of blending in with another company, or worst yet, your competitors.
Your brand doesn’t need to be loud or quirky to be distinct, but it does need to reflect who you are. If you’re not sure what that it, work with a professional to find out. Your gut will tell you when you get there. ;-)
2. Focus on one clear message. The key word here is ‘clear’. Trying to communicate too many things at once makes content confusing and no-one likes to feel confused. The result? They switch off.
Research suggests people only retain about 10% of the information they consume. Decide the most important takeaway for your consumer or a cohort of your consumers (more on this shortly), and lay it out concisely. And please…remove the unnecessary jargon.
3. Remember your target audience. There’s a reason Stannah Stairlifts don’t have a Tik Tok account. If you don’t meet your consumers where they are, they’ll never see you, let alone remember you.
When creating marketing content you don’t need to appeal to everyone but you do need to appeal to someone. Define your target audience and speak to them in a format that resonates.
4. Create social currency. Guess what? People talk! Word-of-mouth is one of the most powerful marketing tools available but it is severely under-utilised. If you want people to remember you, uncover the stories within your business that turns heads.
Social currency works because people share content that makes them look informed or interesting. Tap into it by hunting out the intriguing facts, surprising benefits or fascinating aspects of your operations that you offer, and turn them into a story.
5. Evoke emotion. Content marketing that makes people feel something is more likely to stick. Joy, humour, curiosity and inspiration are a great way to get people’s attention.
Emotional content is about connecting with your audience on a human level, but not every brand can utilise every emotion. It all drills down to your brand values and your tone of voice.
Which brings us neatly back round to point one. :-)
